Developing an Idea

Kids teach kids. Kids teaching kids helps to promote a sense of responsibility and leadership among the children. When they are given the opportunity to teach others, they develop confidence in their abilities and take ownership of their own learning. In addition, kids teaching kids can be a fun and engaging way to learn. When children are able to work together and explore ideas in a hands-on way, they may be more motivated and excited about their learning.

Tutoring is also largely beneficial for the tutor. Tutoring allows them to sharpen their own knowledge and skills in the subject that they are tutoring. By teaching others, students are also reinforcing their own understanding of the topic. More importantly, it can help build relationships with students, parents, and educators that can lead to other opportunities in the future. It helps develop communication, organization, and interpersonal skills that are valuable in many different fields. In this ESL program, volunteer tutors develop abilities to communicate proficiently in another language while also learning the valuable skills of teaching. While students in India struggle to find cheap access to quality English education, similarly, US born-Indians rarely have a cheap way to hone their mastery of another language.

By fostering a culture of peer learning and collaboration, we can help to create a more dynamic and effective educational experience for children which is a valuable concept that can benefit both the learners and the teachers.
